A Wish for Japan
Written by Jessica Fedin

Staten Island Tech Key Clubbers put time and effort into creating paper cranes for three weeks in preparation for our event. Cranes as well as mesh bags of stars and small cranes were sold at the event, where performances by Freestyle Dance Club to Japanese music from Kingdom Hearts, an uplifting melody from Chamber Music Club and the local band, The Awkward Turtles, accompanied by a video of Japan’s suffering and disaster ridden country and people helped to enhance and highlight our understanding of the importance of helping others, and especially Japan in their time of crisis. Refreshments were free and donations encouraged, and with the addition of a bake sale held by Key Club earlier that day, a total of 1,500 dollars was raised with proceeds dedicated towards the International Relief fund through the Red Cross.

This event held by Key Club was successful with special thanks to club advisor Ms. Palma and the Red Cross Club! Key Club is all about service to the community and helping those in need, and what better way than working together and creating cultural staples such as origami and hand-sewn sushi in order to celebrate a culture and advocate peace on Earth. After all, we all live on it.
