New York District Governor Allen Yu and the New York District Governor's Project Committee proudly present the
2009-2010 Governor's Project: Our World - Our Focus

The Governor's Project "Our World – Our Focus" is an initiative for the combat of hunger, the preservation of the environment, and betterment of the community and the world around us. During this year, our District will strive for not just one small emphasis, but we will explore the big focus – making our world a better place. With this project, we will be able to help our homes, schools, and communities reach their maximum potential and shape our world—one day, one hour, and one moment at a time. Mighty New York District, we invite you to join together to make our world, our focus.
Protecting Nature's Treasures
Our environment is in grave danger, and if we don’t do something to protect and preserve it for the years to come, we will lose all of Earth’s greatest treasures. More animals are endangered than ever before, and landscapes are destroyed everyday due to global warming. The greenhouse gas emission of just an average America is 27 tons of carbon dioxide per year simply by not recycling paper and not conserving water. Plus, with the current economic crisis, many parks and beaches cannot be opened because the government cannot afford to have them cleaned and cared for.
Start out small by simply cleaning your local roads and highways. Raise local awareness for conservation of the environment by setting an example in your community. Then, plan a community project to help clean up parks and beaches. Helping our environment will ensure that our nature’s treasures will be preserved for our future.
Fighting Against Hunger
Every five seconds, a child dies from hunger; that's 16,000 children a year. In some households, families often skip meals just to make ends meet. As unfortunate as this is, there are some things we can do about it, and there are endless possibilities for how much change we can inspire.
Start out with helping your local food bank. You could hold a bake sale, a food drive, a talent show, or maybe a community event where food donations benefit your cause. Plan a soup fundraiser at your school, or volunteer at your local soup kitchen! Remember, there are endless possibilities to fight hunger and ensure a better future for everyone.
