Hello Mighty New York District!

The new Key Club year has begun and the New Club Building and Reactivation Committee is hard at work and there are many new clubs are waiting to get started! Throughout these next few months it is very important to get started on these new clubs. We are trying to reach our ambitious goal of 1 new Key Club per Division, 27 overall, and we are determined to do so! And it all starts here, all of our efforts are needed to successfully build clubs and expand our New York District.

Make sure as Key Clubbers, you make sure that clubs do not become suspended or inactive as well. Even if we build 30 new Key Clubs, if 30 get suspended, then we have not grown. We must stay on top of these clubs who have lost there charters and get them back and re-chartered! Doing this, our Mighty District will expand to new heights and nothing will stop us!

Since many of you probably do not know how to build a club, here are some easy steps:

  1. Find a local Kiwanis Club interested in sponsoring a Key Club
  2. Go to the potential school, tell the principal about Key Club, and get the approval to begin the chartering process.
  3. Recruit members for your club, put up flyers, and have a meeting with FREE food
  4. Draw up a petition to be signed by possible members, school principal and the sponsoring Kiwanis Club to serve as a pledge.
  5. Set up a second club meeting to set up bylaws, elect officers and collect dues. The faster this gets don, the faster you will receive a charter.
  6. Submit the petition along with dues, the adopted bylaws, and the list of officers to the International Office.

I thank you for your hard work in your own club and community, but now it’s time to start thinking about how you can help other communities in your area. Building and Reactivating these clubs will change their communities forever, and you can be apart of it! Good Luck and Happy Building!
