New York District Key Clubbers,

My name is Bing and it is an honor to serve as your 2008-2009 International Projects and Programs chair. I am incredibly excited for this year and the impact we will have on the world.

International Projects are charities that Key Club is officially partners with. They include Children’s Miracle Network, UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Read and Lead. Key Club International raises money for all four of these charities, and in return, the give us publicity, which will help us make Key Club a household name.

So, what do the charities do?

March of Dimes-Goal: $10,000
BROCHURE

“Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies’ lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers, and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, and low birth weights.”

UNICEF-Goal: $40,000
BROCHURE

“UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.”

Children’s Miracle Network-Goal: $10,000
BROCHURE

"The mission of Children's Miracle Network is to generate funds and awareness programs for the benefit of children and its member hospitals."

Read and Lead-Goal:10,000 hours
BROCHURE

The Read & Lead™ program is a one-on-one reading improvement program conducted by high school students to teach young emergent readers in the early years of elementary school to love and enjoy books.

**The current Major Emphasis Program is High Five for Health. However, because it will change at International Convention, the committee did not set a goal. We will set a goal for the new MEP once it is decided upon at International Convention.

I know that our goals this year are really high, but I know that if we all work hard, these goals can be achieved. Think about it. There are more than 13,000 Key Clubbers in New York District. This means that if each person were to raise $1 for Children’s Miracle Network, then we would easily surpass our goal.

ATTENTION: The Key Club International Board has removed the Seasons of Service. However, we are still official partners with all the organizations. This means that you can raise money whenever you want for whichever charities. Even though there are no more “seasons”, you are still allowed to focus your fundraising during certain times. For example, most Key Clubbers raise money for UNICEF in the fall because of Halloween. Just remember that you can raise money for ALL the organizations during ALL seasons.

If you guys have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the committee members.

Yours in Service,
Bing Zhang
