From here, the advocacy is simple! Just print out the following letter, have anyone who is in support of it in your key club sign it, and then send it to either (or both!) of the Senators above! Don't forget to save a copy of your letter to attach to your MRF! If you do the service, don't you want the recognition?

******* ******* *******

I urge you to give your strong support to the Sanders-Boxer Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act (S. 309) and the Waxman Safe Climate Act (HR. 1590).
The time for debate is over! There is a clear scientific consensus that heat-trapping emissions from human activities are causing global warming. Scientists warn that unless we act now, continued warming will bring stronger storms, rising sea levels, and more intense precipitation. While other nations have moved to tackle this challenge, the U.S., which currently produces more than one fifth of the world's global warming pollution, has fallen far behind.

The global warming bills backed by Senators Bernard Sanders (I-VT) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) would help prevent the worst effects of global warming by:

  • gradually reducing U.S. emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050
  • requiring lower emissions from all kinds of vehicles
  • promoting energy-efficiency
  • increasing power from clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar

These solutions will also cut air pollution, create jobs, and reduce our oil dependence.

The Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act (S. 309) and Safe Climate Act of 2007 (HR. 1590) capture much of the best thinking about how to stop global warming and would put our country on the road to a brighter - and cooler - future. I'm counting on you to act now for all Americans and for future generations on this urgent issue.

Sincerely,
